Pop Warner is the oldest national youth football and cheerleading organization in the world, with active programs in 42 states and 7 countries. Founded in 1929 by Joe Tomlin, we now have over 120 leagues and over 325,000 members.
As the oldest and most respected youth football and cheer organization in the country, Pop Warner takes safety seriously and is at the forefront nationally to prevent injuries and keep players safe. It requires academic fitness to play and rewards the Little Scholars with scholarships for college. Pop Warner truly creates the student athletes of tomorrow. With its many partners such as Disney and ESPN, it hosts the best and most competitive national championship of all youth football and cheer organizations.
Each year, Pop Warner hosts the Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer and Dance Championships. For the past 11 years, the event has taken place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex™ at Disney World. More than 300 cheer and dance squads and 64 football teams compete for the right to be crowned Pop Warner National Champion.
College Scholarships – Each year, we award scholarships for higher education to the most deserving students in our highest grade levels. Pop Warner is proud to have awarded nearly one million dollars in scholarships in just 17 years!
Character On and Off the Field
South Bay Youth Football & Cheer requires ALL participants, parents, and volunteers to abide by a Code of Conduct when at games, competitions, practices. All members of SBYFC are considered ambassadors of our league. The actions of our members directly reflect our league’s character. We strongly encourage all our members to be their best selves when on and off the field of play.
Scholar Athletes
In order to participate in South Bay Youth Football and Cheer, we encourage all of our athletes to carry and maintain a high academic standard. Success is measured beyond the playing field. The scholastic fitness of our participants is of the utmost importance.
Proof of satisfactory progress in school is required. A 2.0/70% or the equivalent is the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate. If a participant cannot meet the academic requirement then he or she may obtain a scholastic waiver which allows him or her to provide a progress report from the teacher or school of improvement. No team may be allowed to participate in regional or national sponsored championships or bowl games if its players have not met the nationally published scholastic requirements.
Participant Safety Comes First
South Bay Youth Football & Cheer is concerned about safety. Under the guidelines of Pop Warner, players compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict age & weight matrix that reduces the risk and reality of injuries.
